Impact of Translanguaging Pedagogy in an

International School Setting

The purpose of the action research study is to better understand how translanguaging is used and supported at an international school in Korea. Three grade levels were looked at for this study, Grades 1-3, and teachers in these grades were surveyed on their attitudes and inclusion of translanguaging practices. One classroom from each grade level was observed and the teachers from those classes were interviewed. Data revealed a support and a belief that translanguaging had positive benefits for their students.

Similar to the previous research conducted on translanguaging, positive bilingual identity is a common finding from various different research models. My hope is that more international schools will see the benefits of translanguaging and incorporate language and cultural strategies that allow our third-culture students to be successful.
